Preparation And Characterization Of Alkylphosphonium Montmorillonite As Nanofiller For Polymethyl Methacrylate Acid Composites
(Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, 2018) Siti Aisyah Binti Rusli
Sodium montmorillonite (Na+ -MMT) is one of the natural clay uses worldwide as nano filler in polymer nanocomposite. Na+-MMT is naturally hydrophilic in nature and cannot dispersed easily in organic polymer matrix as polymer has hydrophobic characteristic. Thus surface of MMT must undergo certain modifications to improve its ability to disperse in polymer matrix in the fonn of organophilic MMT (OMMT). Currently commercial OMMT are modified from alkyl ammonium surfactant, which has low thennal stability which unable them to withstand high temperature for thermal polymer processing. Considering steric tolerance of phosphorus atom by participation of its low energy d-orbitals, in breaking and fonnation of bond, alkyl phosphonium surfactants are propose in this study as an altemative surface modifier to alkylammonium which expected to increase the thermal stability of modified clay. Triisobutyl(methyl)phosphonium (TBMP) and tetrabutylphosphonium chloride (TBP) were used as surface modifier in the modification of Na+-MMT via ion exchange reaction fonning OMMT's. (TBMP-MMT and TBP-MMT). The Na+ MMT, OMMT and commercial MMT (Cloisite 93A) were characterized and compared based on their elemental composition (CHNS), chemical structure (FTIR, BET analysis) and morphology (XRD), and them1al properties (TGA).

Modeling The Asymmetric Dynamics Of Financial Assets: Insights Into Hedging, Safe Hayen And Portfolio Diversification Strategies
(Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, 2017-01) Naveed Raza
This thesis examines the dynamic dependence, hedging effectiveness, safe haven and portfolio diversification benefits of bonds, crude oil, gold and VIX futures for global stock markets including G-12 countries, selected Eurozone, regional world Islamic and conventional stock markets. The daily data spans from January I, 1991 to December 31, 2015. The DCC, ADCC and GO-GARCH techniques are used to model the volatilities and conditional correlations. The rolling window estimation technique is employed to construct an out-of-sample one-step-ahead forecast of the dynamic conditional correlations and the optimal hedge ratios. However, the wavelet coherence (WTC) approach is utilized to detect the cross-asset contagion and thereafter determine the safe haven dynamics of alternative assets in the time-frequency domain. Findings of the thesis reveal that negative shocks have more pronounced effects in comparison to positive shocks. That pushes investors to seek refuge in safe haven assets in order to safeguard their investments from extreme negative shocks. For most of the situations studied, the volatility index (VIX) provides the best and effective hedge to stock returns and the national benchmark bond indices provide the second best hedge.

(Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, 2017-05) Mohd Zul Helmi Rozaini
Development in the fish processing industry has led a large amount of waste every year around the world. Fish waste including, fish head, scales, bones and guts. Certain fish bones have an attractive added value which contain hydroxyapatite (HAp), (Ca1o(PO»)«(OH)») that can potentially be used as UV absorbance (unmodified HAp). Thus, with the additional of manganese and ferum, new hybrid sunscreen materials have been initiated i.e modified HAp-Fe and modified HAp-Mn. Therefore, Sardinella fimbriata bone have been discovered and synthesized to be utilized as sunscreen in cosmeceuticals. This work was divided into five stages. The first was the preparation of pure HAp by extracting the fish bone waste and calcinations process. The percentage yields obtained from the extraction consist of 41.2 4 0.66 % (w/w) which was almost half of the dry weight of 100 g samples. The second part of the work were discussed on the preparation of sunscreen emulsion via microhedral emulsion stabilized by the nonionic surfactants and olive oil as co-surfactant. The rheology of the microhcdral samples was governed by oil droplets size and oil volume fraction. Flow curves and the viscosity-shear rate profile showed that the samples displayed shear thinning behaviour. The third part of this study basically an extended study of previous topic including the preparation, development and the morphological studies of porous calcium phosphates or HAp in microhedral emulsion.

Corporate Governance, Risk Management, And Corporate Social Responsibility: Evidence From Jordan
(Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, 2017) Yousef Mohammad Said Shahwan
This research was motivated by a number of issues, which include, the increasing numbers of refugees, increased poverty level, the non-availability of natural resources (such as petroleum) in Jordan, and the low level of contribution of the companies to the Jordanian society through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Corporate Social Responsibility is perceived as one of the moral commitments towards stakeholders, whereas moral commitment is an important precaution to avoid the recurrence of the non-financial risk. Corporate Social Responsibility should be managed and its non-practice can be alleviated by having effective Corporate Governance (CG). However, the extant corporate social responsibility's literature focuses more on the relationship between the firms and manager characteristics, and thus, less on the role of Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) code of Corporate Governance and risk management. Therefore, it is imperative to investigate the role of Corporate Governance on Corporate Social Responsibility practice and disclosure and risk management in Jordanian companies
