TEMPORAL AND SPATIAL VARIATIONS OF NUTRIENTS AND DISSOLVED GREENHOUSE GASES CONCENTRATIONS IN KENYIR LAKE, MALAYSIA

Freshwater lakes represent significant sources of greenhouse gas emissions, largely influenced by nutrient enrichment within the water column. This study evaluates the dynamic of dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) distribution patterns in Kenyir Lake, aiming for a better understanding of the physical processes controlling internal loading of CO2, CH4, and nutrients in one of the largest freshwater lakes in Malaysia. The distribution of CO2, CH4, nutrients, and physicochemical parameters in the water column of Lake Kenyir was determined from November 2017 to November 2018. During this period, water samples were collected at different depths to measure CO2 and CH4 using headspace gas chromatography, nutrients using the colorimetric method, and basic water quality parameters using a portable water quality meter.

SPECIES RICHNESS AND COMPOSITION OF LIVERWORT (MARCHANTIOPHYTA) IN THREE DIFFERENT FOREST TYPES IN TERENGGANU, PENINSULAR MALAYSIA

A study on liverwort diversity (Marchantiophyta) across three different forest types in Terengganu, Peninsular Malaysia was conducted. This study aims to identify, describe, and illustrate all the liverwort species collected from one-hectare plot in lowland dipterocarp forest (Belukar Bukit Recreational Forest), mangrove forest (Pulau Telaga Tujuh) and heath forest (Jambu Bongkok Forest Reserve). It also aims to construct a taxonomic key and evaluate the species richness of liverwort that occur in each forest type.

DIVERSITY AND DISTRIBUTION OF CORAL REEF GASTROPODS IN SELECTED ISLANDS AND MARINE PARK AREAS OF TERENGGANU, MALAYSIA

Coral reefs in Terengganu, Malaysia, provide essential ecosystem services but are increasingly threatened by various disturbances. Gastropods, as key reef bioindicators, highlight the need for conservation within Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). This study was conducted on seven protected islands namely Pulau Bidong, Pulau Kapas, Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Redang, Pulau Tenggol, Pulau Yu Kecil, and Pulau Yu Besar to determine the diversity, distribution and abundance of coral reef gastropods. This study also assessed the age categories and feeding guilds of identified individuals.
