Item Heavy metals content in marine molluscs and the barnacle,Tetraclita sp. along the rocky shores of the east & west coast of peninsular Malaysia(Terengganu: Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu, 1999) Liow Seow YokeA study was undertaken to determine the influence of body size upon heavy metals concentration in marine molluscs and the barnacle, Tetraclita sp. and to compare heavy metals level between genus and between sampling sites. The concentrations of zinc, iron, copper, cadmium, chromium and lead in Saccostrea sp., Nerita sp., Thais sp. b, Littorina sp., Neritina sp., Tetraclita sp. and Patella sp., which were collected from the East and West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, were studied for this purpose.Item Kajian proses tindakbalas pantai keatas perubahan akibat gangguan manusia dan semulajadi(Terengganu: Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu, 1999) Ismazura SapuanA study on the process o f recovery for a stretch o f beach experiencing disturbance by both man and natural forces were conducted from September to December 1998. Beach profiles and sediment data were collected at intervals of approximately 2 weeks. Results show that under natural conditions, beach erosion due to strong monsoonal waves occurs first at the foreshore, followed by midshore.Item Ciri-ciri sedimen litoral di sepanjang pantai dasar Sabak hingga pantai Irama Bachok(Terengganu: Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu, 1999) Mohd Mazlan YusoffKajian ciri-ciri sedimen litoral diiakukan di sepanjang pantai Dasar Sabak hingga pantai Irama Bachok pada bulan Ogos hingga bulan November. Kajian diiakukan dengan mengambil sedimen di bahagian bcickshore, midshore dan foreshore bagi setiap stesen. Keseluruhannya di sepanjang pantai kajian dari segi nilai min menunjukkan jenis pasir tengah kasar lebih dominan. Nilai penyisihan adalah lebih cenderung kepada jenis penyisihan hampir sempurna dan mempunyai kepencongan sangat negatif. Sedimen juga lebih ke arah kurtosis jenis paling leptokurtik.Item Formulation of a bacterial - silt mixture for degrading hydrocarbons in crude oil-contaminated sediments(Terengganu: Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu, 1999) Hii Yii SiangBacterial-silt mixture has been formulated to degrade hydrocarbons in crude oil contaminated sediments (1500 mg/kg Petronas Tapis A crude oil). The bacterial-silt mixture was formulated by inoculating an active oil degrading bacteria isolated from Malaysia marine environment into enriched marine silt. ThahirThe main objective of this project is to evaluate the usefulness of RAPD technique to identify and characterize different populations of mudskipper, Periophthalmus schlosseri in Malaysia.Item Beberapa ciri partikel terampai di kawasan Laut China Selatan (Filipina Barat)(Terengganu: Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu, 1999) Hasni ArsadKajian mengenai partikel terampai telah dijalankan di kawasan perairan Laut China Selatan, perairan Fillippina Barat. Penyempelan bermula dari 18 April 1996 hingga 8 May 1998. Sebanyak 27 sampel diambil di 15 stesen yang telah ditetapkan. Sampel air diambil mengunakan alat Ven Dorn 30 liter pada lapisan klorofil maksima.Item Development of PCR-Rapd technique to distinguish different populations of Oyster (Crassostrea iredalei)(Terengganu: Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu, 1999) Norzehan ZakariaThe main objectives of this study were to evaluate the ability of a variety of recently developed genomic DNA and to optimize DNA markers to identify different populations of Malaysian oysters, Crassostrea iredalei. It was an economically important food that has gained popularity among consumers in Malaysia. Therefore, a study was done on two population of Malaysian oyster, Crassostrea iredalei. from Tumpat (Kelantan and Gong Batu (Terengganu).Item Variability of physical parameters in Sabah and Sarawak waters due to the southwest monson(Terengganu: Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu, 1999) Lim Phaik KinThis study provides new information on the physical characteristics of water masses in Sabah and Sarawak waters. The aim is to determine the effect of Southwest monsoon on the variability of water masses, in Sabah and Sarawak waters. Two hundred seedlings o f Rhizophora apiculata BL were transferred froms its natural area at Kemaman to UPMT in an effort to compare their growth and survivability rate. Rhizophora apiculata BL was chosen for this study because o f their presence is not lush and they have unique flying battress roots.Item Oil pollution and oil bacteria disribution in the south China Sea and Straits of Malacca(Terengganu: Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu, 1999) Sue Teak HongThe distribution of petroleum hydrocarbons in water and sediment in Port Dickson and Kuala Terengganu were studied between March and December’98. Pemerhatian dilakukan pada lapan slesen kajian menggunakan garis transek 50 m. Kaedah kategori komuniti bentik (Benthic Lifeform Category Method) terumbu karang digunakan untuk mengambil data liputan karang, manakala kaedah pencerapan langsung (Fish Visual Census Method) secara selam SCUBA pula digunakan untuk mendapatkan data jumlah ikan.Item Perbandingan kecekapan pengumpulan sedimen menggunakan kaedah pagar dan semulajadi sebagai pencegah hakisan(Terengganu: Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu, 1999) Sofia JohariKajian perbandingan kecekapan pengumpulan sedimen mcnggunakan kaedah pagar dengan semulajadi telah dijalankan dari bulan Ogos dan berakhir pada bulan Disember 1998 di pantai Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu. Logam-logam terlarut dan partikulat Mn, Fe dan A1 telah diukur dengan menggunakan alat Spektrofotometer Serapan Atom api (AAS) dan alat Spektrofotometer Serapan Atom relau grafit (GFAAS).Item Taburan hidrokarbon (Tah dan Pah) di dalam enapan Laut China Selatan diperairan Sabah dan Sarawak(Terengganu: Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu, 1999) Mohd.
