Catalytic mizoroki-heck reactions over palladium(II) schiff base complexes in homogeneous and heterogeneous polyaniline supported systems
(Johor: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, 2013-04) Siti Kamilah Che Soh
The palladium catalysed Mizoroki-Heck reactions represent one of the most effective methods for the formation of carbon-carbon bonds in organic synthesis. This research reports on the synthesis, characterization and catalytic activity of homogenous and polyaniline (PANI) supported palladium(II) Schiff base complexes.

A modification of polystyrene supported palladium(II) complex as effective catalyst for Mizoroki‐Heck reaction
(Journal of Scientific Research and Development, 2016) Siti Kamilah Che Soh; Siti Aminah Jusoh; Mohd Sukeri Mohd Yusof; Wan M. Khairul
Chloromethylated polystyrene cross-linked with 5% divinylbenzene (PS5) has been successfully functionalized with phenyldithiocarbazate ligand (PS5-PDC). The polymer was used as solid support for anchoring the palladium metal (PS5-PDC-Pd). The properties of dark colored polymer, impregnated with palladium complex was then characterized by various spectroscopic and analytical techniques namely Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), elemental chemical analysis CHNS, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), BET surface area, powder X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES) and Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX). Supported catalyst of PS5-PDC-Pd was then tested in the Mizoroki-Heck reaction of 4-bromoacetophenone with methyl acrylate. The reaction was monitored by GC-FID. Preliminary results showed that supported catalyst could be used in at least three consecutive Mizoroki-Heck reactions with the same catalytic activity.

Synthesis, Characterization and Preliminary Catalytic Activity of Five-membered Chelate Salen-Palladium(II) Complexes Toward Mizoroki-Heck Reaction
(Middle-East Journal of Scientific Research, 2016) Siti Kamilah Che Soh; Chiam Chia Phang; Nurul Izzatul Amira Baharudin; Noor Sarahida Man
Abstract: Two reliable and economical Salen-palladium(II) complexes,N,N’-bis(4-methoxy-salicylidene)propane- 1,2-diaminepalladium (II) (MSB-1), and N,N’-bis(4-methyl-alpha-salicylidene)propane-1,2-diaminepalladium(II) (MSB-2) have been successfully synthesized via complexation reaction between Schiff base ligands (LSB-1 and LSB-2) with palladium(II) acetate, respectively. The synthesized compounds were successfully characterized using several types of analytical and spectroscopic methods such as CHN elemental analyses, FTIR spectroscopy, and NMR spectroscopy. Previously, most of researchers highlighted the used of metal phosphine complex as an efficient catalyst for carbon-carbon bond formation of Mizoroki-Heck reaction. However, due to the air, moisture-labile and the high cost of phosphine ligand compared to palladium metal itself, there is an urge in the search of alternative cheap and relatively stable phosphine-free catalysts that could offered comparable activity. The synthesized catalysts were introduced and subjected to the Mizoroki- Heck. The performances of catalytic activity were monitored by GC-FID at 3 hours reaction period. Preliminary results showed that the percentage conversion of 4-bromonitrobenene to the coupled products were 100% indicated that MSB-1 and MSB-2 can act ideal potential catalysts in the Mizoroki-Heck reaction.
