Item A modification of polystyrene supported palladium(II) complex as effective catalyst for Mizoroki‐Heck reaction(Journal of Scientific Research and Development, 2016) Siti Kamilah Che Soh; Siti Aminah Jusoh; Mohd Sukeri Mohd Yusof; Wan M. KhairulChloromethylated polystyrene cross-linked with 5% divinylbenzene (PS5) has been successfully functionalized with phenyldithiocarbazate ligand (PS5-PDC). The polymer was used as solid support for anchoring the palladium metal (PS5-PDC-Pd). The properties of dark colored polymer, impregnated with palladium complex was then characterized by various spectroscopic and analytical techniques namely Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), elemental chemical analysis CHNS, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), BET surface area, powder X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES) and Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX). Supported catalyst of PS5-PDC-Pd was then tested in the Mizoroki-Heck reaction of 4-bromoacetophenone with methyl acrylate. The reaction was monitored by GC-FID. Preliminary results showed that supported catalyst could be used in at least three consecutive Mizoroki-Heck reactions with the same catalytic activity.Item Synthesis, characterization and catalytic application of phenyldithiocarbazate-functionalized polystyrene supported palladium(II) complexes in the mizoroki-heck reaction(Terengganu: Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, 2016) Siti Aminah JusohThe development of supported catalyst for chemical transformation has met the highest demand for stringent environmental due to its significance advantages in numerous applications. Due to these interest, this research has been focused on the synthesis, characterization and catalytic activity of phenyldithiocarbazate-functionalized polystyrene supported palladium(II) complexes as a potential catalyst in the Mizoroki-Heck coupling reaction. Two palladium supported catalyst were prepared using 2% cross-linked polystyrene (PS2-PDC-Pd) and 5% cross-linked polystyrene (PS5-PDC-Pd).
