Abstract: Construction industry is one of the important industries that generate wealth and the development of social and economic of the country. The insuffcient implementation of waste management practices in the construction projects has led to the unsuccessful result in reducing environmental impacts and illegal dumping. This paper presents a review of existing literature on construction waste management in Malaysia and initiatives that have been implemented in the Malaysian construction industry. The pattern of literature indicates that the existing construction waste management initiatives provided by the Malaysian government are insuffcient in terms of the inert landfll to meet the increase in construction waste. In addition, the initiatives implemented are seemingly ineffcient due to lack of enforcement and implementation. Thus, it is essential to fll in the gaps by way of more effective initiatives and improvement to the existing practices in order to achieve effective construction waste management.
