A vertically-integrated numerical storm surge prediction model has been developed for the South China Sea and the Strait ofMalacca regions near the east and the west coast ofPeninsular Malaysia. The model has been applied to estimate the surge heights along part of the east and the west coasts of Peninsular Malaysia. Numerical experiments have been carried out by considering four idealised storms ofvarying size and strength to give an idea ofthe likely surges that may affect the coastal region. The study may be useful for planning the development and other activities along the coasts of Peninsular Malaysia.en_US
