Abstract: This paperbeginswithareviewonthecurrenttechniquesusedforthetreatmentandrecoveryofwaste oil, whichisthenfollowedbyanextensivereviewoftherecentachievementsinthesustainable development andutilizationofpyrolysistechniquesinenergyrecoveryfromwasteoils.Theadvantages and limitationsshownbytheuseofpyrolysistechniqueandothercurrenttechniqueswerediscussed along withthefutureresearchthatcanbeperformedonthepyrolysisofwasteoil.Itwasrevealedthat the currenttechniques(transesterification, hydrotreating, gasification, solventextraction, andmembrane technology) areyettobesustainableorcompletelyfeasibleforwasteoiltreatmentandrecovery.Itwas established thatpyrolysistechniquesofferanumberofadvantagesoverotherexistingtechniquesin recoveringboththeenergeticandchemicalvalueofwasteoilbygeneratingpotentiallyusefulpyrolysis products suitableforfuturereuse.
