Title: The effect of methyl benzoate and other fractions from Acanthaster planci in reducing hypercholesterolemia

Abstract: Hypercholesterolemia is a condition where the cholesterol level exceeded certain permitted value. Untreated hypercholesterolemia can lead to another problem which are atherosclerosis. It is the hardening of the arterial wall due to impacted free cholesterol. Marine natural products have been proven to give compound with therapeutic agent against certain diseases. This study was carried out to determine the ability of fraction 1 and methyl benzoate isolated from Acanthaster planci, a marine echinoderm, as a new drug candidate in reducing hypercholesterolemia via reverse cholesterol transport.
