Abstract: This study is aim to examine the difference of the characteristic of inshore fishing boat in East Coast of Malaysia and the difference of construction method. Each state in Malaysia has their cultural differences and this will influence the shape of these boats. Besides that, each states has their own traditional boat builders, there have a slightly difference in the form of the boat because the boat builders do not use any source of reference, but only based on their tradition skills. This study has conducted in three states of East Coast Malaysia that is Terengganu, Kelantan, and Pahang. Each state was focused on specific areas such as Kampung Losong, Kampung Pulau Rusa in Terengganu, Kampung Tanjung Che Mah, Tumpat, Kampung Tok Bali in Kelantan, Kampung Tanjung Lumpur and Kampung Belukar, Tanah Putih in Kuantan Pahang. The scope of this study is based on the B class fishing boats and trawler activity. In order to makes this study run smoothly, several methods were listed, that is observation, survey data, interview and through questionnaire. The result of this study found slightly difference in both characteristic and design from each state, a slightly difference in construction method and the sustainability of the traditional fishing boat within the state that have been stated before.
