dc.description.abstractThis study focuses on nautical science students who decide to enrol the nautical science studies. Sociological profile of those enrolling as students in this university remains under-researched. This paper discusses a survey that was conducted at the University Malaysia Terengganu for nautical science programme aims to reveal the inspirations and the hopes expressed by the students of the first year to fourth year students. The main factor why students choose nautical science 1s because their great interest in this course. Students tend to choose the "practice / work-oriented" which inspired them to pursue nautical science. The shipping ( especially tankers, dry bulks and containers) stands out as the ideal professional paths within the maritime industries. Students were trying out their own efforts to find information about this programme. The programme outcome fits the initial hopes, when students feel that increases their competence and skills, is taught by well-qualified staff and variation of teaching methods. This paper helps a bit to understand the profile students pursuing the nautical science program and contribute to effective planning and management of nautical science program, indirectly to the overall quality of the maritime industry.en_US
