The purpose of this thesis is to stud}' the Vortex-Induced Vibration (VI\l response of cylindrical offshore structures. The present stud)' deals with the forces on the structure and amplitude of the structural vibration. For a bluff bodv exposed to the fluid flow, a VIV response can arise which leads to undesirable forces acting along the bod:' causing fatigue and serious harm to the structure. This work focuses on VIV generation from an elastically' mounted cvlindrical structure with varving aspect ratio. Studies in offshore engineering have shown that the VIV of a longer structure such as riser and spar structure can be fundamentally' different from a low aspect ratio structure such as circular Floating Production Storage Offloading (i.e., Sevan FPSO).en_US
